Mission & History
ABC in Darien was founded in 1980 and our first class of six female scholars arrived in the fall of 1981. The scholars live in Darien and attend our nationally ranked high school. Over our more than 40-year history, 58 scholars have graduated from Darien High School and gone on to prestigious universities, successful careers and impactful community involvement.
ABC in Darien
A Better Chance in Darien (ABC) is one of 20 community school programs (CSP) of A Better Chance, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of well-educated young people from underserved communities who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society.
Today we have seven scholars who live together with live-in resident directors who provide a safe and supportive home-like atmosphere and help provide the tools needed to thrive and successfully complete the ABC program. They are supported by an active board of directors, academic tutors, college counseling, a local host family and volunteer drivers to ensure they can take advantage of all that the Darien community has to offer.
ABC National
A Better Chance, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase substantially the number of well-educated young people from underserved communities who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in American society.
